Welcome to UCLA! As an international student there are a few things you will need to do to have a successful start here. Depending on your student status at UCLA (regular student versus summer session student) there are different components of iSTART@UCLA (formerly known as NISSO) that you should be aware of. Some of them are mandatory and some of them are highly recommended – but all of them have been created to help you get familiar with the United States, Los Angeles, visa issues and regulations, the American classroom as well as UCLA campus life.
Note: iSTART is required for UCLA registered students only. If you are a Visiting Graduate Researcher, scholar or faculty member, you are not required to complete iSTART@UCLA. Please come into the Dashew Center to do your Visa Check-In, do not attend one of the iSTART Visa Check-In sessions.
If you are a student who has been admitted to start your studies at UCLA in Fall 2014 (including law, medicine, Anderson and CSI students), there are 5 components to the iSTART@UCLA (International Students Transition) program:
If you are a student who is only attending UCLA during Summer Session 2014, there are 4 components to the iSTART@UCLA (International Students Transition) program:
Important: if you are registered for summer courses at UCLA and are continuing your studies into the Fall Quarter, you need to complete the iSTART for Newly Admitted Fall Students. The Summer Session iSTART is strictly for non-degree students who are registered for summer courses and who will not be continuing into the Fall Quarter.
