English Language Circle

Need some extra conversation practice? The English Language Circle is an informal social hour led by a native English speaker, who can assist you with your English conversation skills. The circle occurs weekly for two hours and is very informal. No registration is required. For more information on the English Language Circle, check out the Dashew Center events page.

Language Exchange

Want to practice your English skills one-on-one with a native English speaker? You can sign up for the Language Exchange program and learn English while also teaching your native language. See the Dashew Center’s Language Exchange website to find out how to apply!

  • UCLA offers ESL (English as a Second Language) courses during the summer. Click here to see a schedule of classes.
     
  • Kaplan in Westwood offers flexible length English courses, from 2 weeks to 52 weeks. They also offer English for business to enhance your professional resume
     
  • The American Language Center at UCLA Extension also offers a conversation program and English language courses. Please note that this program has a fee involved. Some ALC teachers do tutoring on the side – please inquire through the ALC.
     
  • English Language Center (ELC) on Wilshire in Westwood offers small classes and individual tutoring.
     
  • Santa Monica College and most high schools have adult education ESL classes that are free (e.g. University Adult School and Evans Adult School (downtown))
