Kurnitz Writing Award

Kurnitz Steps to Success

The Kurnitz Writing Award is a great opportunity for international students to be recognized for their creative writing skills. In order to help students submit the best work possible we have created the Kurnitz Steps to Success. These steps include writing workshops, one-on-one peer review session, and encourages participants to meet with Writing Center Staff.

*By completing all four steps, students will increase their chances to win as well as learn more about the writing resources available on campus!

Step 1: Kurnitz Introductory Workshop (January 23)

This introductory workshop will help students become familiar with the contest and guidelines, learn about Mr. Kunitz, review past writing samples, and brainstorm ideas for their entry. Registration for this workshop can be found on the Dashew Center Events Calendar.

Step 2: One-On-One Peer Review Session (Week 7)

Sign up to meet with a Peer Learning Facilitator (PLF), who can assist with polishing and revising your work prior to submitting. Attendees will be asked to bring a draft of their submission to share for feedback. Registration for this workshop can be found on the Dashew Center Events Calendar.

Step 3: Meet with a Writing Center Staff

Meet with a Writing Center Staff member to get feedback on your submission. You can make an appointment with the Undergraduate Writing Center or the Graduate Writing Center.

Step 4: Submit Entry to the Dashew Center (Deadline March 17)

The last step is to submit your entry to the Dashew Center (Bradley Hall #106) by the March 17th deadline. You will need to come into the Dashew Center to hand in your submission, so please plan accordingly. Late submissions will NOT be accepted.
