Curricular Practical Training (CPT)



Overview

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is employment authorization that allows F-1 students to engage in an off-campus academic internship (paid or unpaid) that is a required part or an integral part of their academic curriculum, as stated in the University Catalog

CPT Types

  • Part-time: up to 20 hours per week during the academic year (Fall, Winter and Spring)

  • Full-time: 21 hours or more per week (only available during the Summer; available to graduate students who have advanced to candidacy (ATC) during the academic year)

*Students who have used 12 months or more of full-time CPT will not be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).
