WHAT IS A HOST SIBLING?
Our Host Sublings program allows domestic students the opportunity to "host" an international student by being the international student's "family" while
here in the US. Students often introduce their sibling to thier freinds, invite them home for holidays, meet up with them on thier birthdays, etc. We often
hear that domestic sibling gets more from the expirience then they feel they give! This program has no financial obligation.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
Host Siblings are required to attend an orientation session and one event per quarter with their sibling. The rest is up to you and your sib. The commitment is for one academic year.
WHAT KINDS OF THINGS DO HOST SIBLINGS DO?
The ideas are endless. You can be as creative or relaxed as you want. Some ideas of previous activities are:
*** Introduce your sibling to your friends.
*** Invite your brother or sister home for the holidays.
*** Take him/her out for his/her birthday.
*** Chill out together on weekends.
*** Grab coffee on a weeknight.
*** Familiarize your sibling with Los Angeles and American culture.
*** Become Study Buddies.
DO I GET TO CHOOSE MY SIBLING?
Pretty close! Both Domestic Students and International Students fill out a questionnaire that allows us to pair you best. You can request particular demographic qualities like age, gender, country of origin, languages spoken, religion, major of studies, and more.
DON'T THINK THE RELATIONSHIP IS ONE-SIDED.
We often hear that the domestic sibling gets more from the relationship than they feel they give!
To become a host sibling or an international sibling please fill out the appropriate application form below. Currently enrolled International Students are free to apply as either a domestic host sibling or an international sibling depending on whether they want to host or be hosted!
