Join us for the Fall 2017 Travel*Mate: A Cultural Exchange trip along the California Coast from September 17th- 20th!  Our Travel*Mate trips can be thought of as "Global Siblings on the Road"!  These trips are a great way to meet friends from across the world and see the U.S.!  Our trips are designed for you to make as many friend as possible during our mandatory events, get to know your Travel*Mate that is from a different country from you and enjoy the must-see sites at the same time!  Highlights of the trip include: 

  • Biking in Santa Barbara 
  • Exploring breathtaking Hearst Castle
  • Train ride through the redwood forest in Santa Cruz
  • Playing around the Santa Cruz Boardwalk
  • Visit to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium 
  • Hiking at picturesque Point Lobos
  • Relaxing at Pismo Beach
  • Baking or wine tasting in Danish Solvang!
  • Transportation to/from all destinations
  • 3 nights hotel accommodations
  • Most meals during trip

 *Important Note: In order to ensure that Travel Mates are from diverse countries, registration is limited to fifty-percent of the trip being from any particular country.

To Purchase your ticket:

Returning Students: If you are a returning UCLA student and are on campus during the summer, you can purchase your ticket in person at the Dashew Center.Credit Card only!

New Students: If you are a new student (or returning student) who is not currently in Los Angeles please create a Dashew Center account and then send an email to with the following information:

  1. Name (First and Last)
  2. Nickname (name you would like for your name tag)
  3. Are you a new or returning student? 
  4. UCLA student ID Number
  5. Email Address (one you check regularly) 
  6. Food Allergies and Restrictions (e.g. Vegetarian)
  7. Home Country
  8. Activity Preference in Solvang: Wine Tasting (must be ages 21+) or Danish Pastry Baking Class (All ages) - On our last day we will split up the group for these two activities. Please choose the activity that you wish to attend (due to limited capacity in each group, the activities will be provided on a first come basis and also by age, due to the age restrictions of the wine tasting).

Pre-Trip Meeting: The Pre-Trip meeting will be held on Thursday, September 14th at 6 PM in Bradley Hall. At this meeting you will receive all of the important information you will need regarding the trip (e.g. itinerary, packing list, meet your Travel*Mate, fill out medical forms, waivers, etc.).

**It is Mandatory to attend either the in-person meetingFailure to attend will result in a $50 fee, that must be paid in order to attend the trip.

First I'd like to thank you for directing such an amazing place as Dashew Center, I as an international student appreciate all your work and programs. I'm writing you to give you some feedback about the trip to Yosemite. This was the best trip ever, I'm really glad you are looking into new directions to integrate international students and this trip has been my best experience at UCLA (I'm starting my third year as a graduate student). Jennie and all her staff organized perfectly this trip. The hotel was good as well as all the activites they programmed. My expectations were completely overcome by their work. Not only we had an amazing time, they always tried to integrate everyone to form one group. We worked as a team and now I think that all of us will never forget this three lovely persons that made this trip a reallity. Thank you very much.
